Is Ceylon Tea The Best Tea In The World?

When it comes to tea, Ceylon Tea stands proudly amongst the greats. Made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant grown in Sri Lanka, Ceylon tea is known for its bold flavour and distinctive aroma. But is Ceylon Tea really the best tea in the world?

Pure Ceylon Black Tea

Ceylon tea comes in a variety of types, including green, white, and oolong, but it is most commonly known for its black tea. Pure Ceylon black tea is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant that is grown in the unique terroir that Sri Lanka has to offer. The tea is handpicked in the early misty mornings and then withered, rolled, and fermented to create its bold and complex flavour.

Whilst the question of whether Ceylon tea is the best tea in the world is a matter of personal preference, there are a few reasons why many people consider Ceylon tea to be among the best:

  1. Quality: Ceylon tea is grown in ideal conditions in Sri Lanka's unique terroir, where the sun, wind, soil, rains, and altitude all contribute to the quality of the cuppa.
  1. Flavour: Ceylon tea is known for its bold and complex flavour, with notes of fruit, spice, and even caramel. Its full-bodied flavour makes it a favourite amongst tea lovers around the world.
  1. Versatility: Ceylon tea is a versatile tea that can be enjoyed on its own or with a variety of foods. Its bold flavour pairs well with spices, making it a popular choice for pairing with Indian and Middle Eastern cuisine.

  1. What is the best way to brew Ceylon tea?

To brew the perfect cup of Ceylon tea, start with fresh water and bring it to a boil. Place one teaspoon of loose tea leaves or one tea bag per 220ml cup of water, and then pour the boiling water over the tea. How long you should let your tea steep for depends on the type of tea you are brewing. For example, if it’s a Ceylon Black Tea, we recommend letting the tea steep for 3-5minutes, but if it’s a cup of green tea that you’re consuming, 2-3 minutes is the recommended time.

  1. What are the health benefits of Ceylon tea?

Ceylon tea is rich in antioxidants, which can help protect the body against damage from free radicals. It also contains caffeine, which can help improve mental alertness and reduce fatigue.

  1. How is Ceylon tea different from other types of tea?

Ceylon tea is known for its bold and complex flavor, which sets it apart from other types of tea. It is also grown in Sri Lanka's highlands, which contributes to its unique aroma and taste.

  1. Can Ceylon tea be enjoyed with milk and sugar?

Yes, Ceylon tea can be enjoyed with milk and sugar, although many people prefer to drink it plain to fully appreciate its flavour. If you do choose to add milk and sugar, be sure to use high quality ingredients to avoid overpowering the tea's delicate taste.
